mum and i were never friends.

we fought and battled

often wordlessly and

through malicious silences.

neither won.

neither gained.

festering resentments,

burning betrayals

followed our journey.

always we loved each other deeply.

her ageing years

brought us closer.

we had both mellowed,

and fighting was no longer necessary.

an unearthly peace

reigned over both of us,

and the sigh follows me still.
