Book Five, The Fog Splitters, is set in Santa Fe de Bogota, the capital of Colombia in 1948. Blanca Poveda works with her family in La Puerta Falsa, The False Door, a restaurant near the main city square. Her conservative parents are only interested in the survival of the restaurant through hard times. Blanca is secretly involved with New Liberal movement of Gaitan, when she meets Jose Ignacio Paris, great grandson of Pepe Paris, friend to Bolivar. Jose is an emerald dealer with obscure links to North America. In an explosive time, Blanca and Jose find their growing affection leads them down dangerous roads.
