Book Six, Drinking Pitch, is set in Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and New Zealand, in the 1980s. It follows the life of Juan Carlos Castillo, a financier, who has wearied of the growing social inequities and his wealthy family’s hypocrisy. Thrown recklessly on a mission for a seedy character, El Gallo, Juan Carlos’ life turns around. He joins the growing New Liberal Movement. Driven by admiration for its leader, Luis Galan, Juan Carlos becomes a donor to the campaign. His former lover, a French diplomat, warns him that his involvement with Galan will get him murdered. He doesn’t listen. Galan is assassinated and Juan Carlos is ambushed. Injured, he is forced to flee. A New Zealand woman, Anie Crowe, who has fallen in love with the Muisca legends accidentally meets the injured Juan Carlos. Together they cross several borders to relive the curse of Ina and Nyam. Over an ocean they eventually travel to an uncertain life in a new and unfriendly land.
